German Bundesliga games to be broadcast in Việt Nam

HÀ NỘI — Next Media has won the rights to broadcast the German Bundesliga in Việt Nam over the next five years.

The company announced the deal on Wednesday.

Next Media will broadcast more than 300 matches per season live on both free-to-air (FTA) channels and as part of a paid subscription service starting from this August.

It will include live broadcasting of the season-opening DFL Super Cup, the crucial relegation play-off matches, and additional on-demand programming such as highlights and magazine shows.

The agreement also includes commitment to Vietnamese football development including knowledge transfer and seasonal workshops with a focus on youth.

“After our success in the field on copyright and media with local tournaments, Next Media now heads to access to regional and international competitions,” said Nguyễn Trung Kiên, general director of Next Media, which own right of broadcasting the 2020 AFF Cup in Việt Nam, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.

“We are dedicated to continually entertain Vietnamese fans with the world's leading sports and football tournaments.”

Bundesliga International CEO Robert Klein said: “This is a landmark moment for us, as it signifies the first time a private media company in Việt Nam has acquired the rights to distribute a major European football competition.

"The Vietnamese have a huge appetite for football, and we are confident that the authentic, entertaining, goal-filled matches will entertain fans throughout the country. We look forward to growing the Bundesliga brand and supporting the growth of Vietnamese football with our strategic roadmap, to be delivered with our partner Next Media.”

Established in 1963, Bundesliga is the German premier league consisting of 18 teams. The tournament is broadcast in more than 200 countries and territories. It is one of the biggest leagues in Europe and the world with highest average stadium attendance worldwide. 1 VNS
