Hollywood blockbusters to hit local cinemas early

HCM CITY — Local movie buffs will be able to enjoy nine Hollywood blockbusters this summer, either a week ahead or at the same time as their international release.

The movies are: Thor; Fast Five; Kungfu Panda 2; Pirates of the Carribean 4; Transformer 3; Cars 2; Cowboys and Aliens; Captain America: The First Avenger; and X-Men: First Class.

Most of them are in 3D, excluding Fast Five and X-Men: First Class, and are produced by leading studios like Dream Works, Paramount and Universal Pictures.

The movies range from animated, detective, criminal, magic and legendary genres.

They will be shown within Megastar Cineplexes across the country from the end of April to August.

Hien and Hien publish book of lilting love verses

HCM CITY — Two women poets, both named Dinh Thu Hien, have jointly published a collection of poems titled Hien la Hien.

The title means Hien is Hien and the word means gentle in Vietnamese.

One Hien was born in Ha Tinh Province, got a master's degree in literature and lives in Ha Noi. The other was born in Hai Duong Province, got a master's in journalism and lives in HCM City.

They began to have their love poems printed in newspapers and magazines in the 1990's, gained reasonable reputations, and won several awards between them.

Understandably, everyone was confused and constantly mistook one for the other since they had no idea there were two poets of the same name.

The two later became close friends and struck upon the idea of a joint work.

The front and back covers of the collection are identical and each has a photo of one of the two Hiens.

Pay TV companies form industry association

HCM CITY — Around 150 companies involved in providing pay TV announced the formation of an association at the first industry congress held in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The association brings together all key players in the Vietnamese pay TV market like Viet Nam Television (VTV), Saigontourist cable TV, HCM City Cable Television, and Viet Nam Multimedia Corporation.

Vu Van Hien, the outgoing general director of the VTV, was nominated as the first president.

The association's tasks include settling disputes relating to rights, market share, subscription fees, frequency, and technology.

Importantly, it will unite the industry for licensing negotiations with foreign partners.

Pay TV in the country, as opposed to free analogue TV, offers subscribers channels via cable, digital transmitter, or satellite.
