LAO CAI — The National Television Festival 2016 was officially launched yesterday in the northern province of Lao Cai with many art performances embracing the culture of the ethnic groups.

The festival will feature the best television works of the year, photo exhibitions, talk shows and conferences.

The jury board of 50 members will judge 500 entries in nine categories for the best television works of the year award, according to Tran Binh Minh, general director of Viet Nam Television.

The nine categories are programmes for kids, documentary, reporting and science and education programmes, as well as talk shows, television programmes in ethnic language, music shows, television movies and cinema programmes. Among them, the reporting category has attracted the most entries with nearly 150 works.

Minh said this year the festival features three conferences – “Communication work on environment and climate change,” “Graphics in producing television programmes” and “Promoting the ethnic culture on television”.

“Among them, the conference on environment and climate change, taking place this morning, attracted the participation of foreign partners, such as head of the EU delegation to Viet Nam Bruno Angelet and Japan International Co-operation Agency experts, highlighting the importance of the global issue and the concern of the mass media,” Minh said.

The festival is an annual event of Viet Nam Television to honour the best television programmes of the year and is a platform for producers and broadcast professionals to meet and exchange knowledge and skills. — VNS
