HCM CITY — An exhibition of more than 100 photographs of the sea, people and daily life in coastal Binh Thuan province opened yesterday in the lobby of Viet Nam News Agency's southern office in District 3.

The exhibited photos were selected from 500 entries for a photo contest held by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Binh Thuan Tourism Association.

Titled Binh Thuan, Impressions 2011, the contest was open to all photographers in the country. Entries were collected over a period of three months.

Contestants were given a choice of three topics: international windsurfing and yacht races held by the province's Phan Thiet City; sand dunes and coastal scenery; and the daily life of local population including typical folk festivals.

The jury, headed by award-winning photographer Le Hong Linh, chairman of Viet Nam Association of Photographic Artists' Art Council, selected 16 winners for the first, second, third and consolation prizes.

The first prize went to a photo titled Speed, featuring a windsurfer in action taken by Huynh Thanh Binh. Binh also won a consolation prize for his Dance on Sea.

Binh said that the sea, sand, wind and all the elements that constitute the soul of the province had inspired photographers.

Photographer Ngo Dinh Hoa bagged both second prizes for Moment of Triumph and Excursion at Sea. Two other entries of his also won consolation prizes.

Green Journey, Yellow Sun and Blue Sea of Mui Ne, Ca Ty River Basks in the Afternoon', and Basket Boat Race were among the award winning photos.

Ngo Minh Chinh, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, remarked that the photos testified to Binh Thuan's eligibility for hosting international sports and entertainment events.

The exhibition will remain open until Saturday at 116-118, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, District 3, to mark the National Reunification Day. A similar exhibition was held in Phan Thiet City more than a week ago. — VNS
