HA NOI — A tribute concert dedicated to singer and songwriter Tran Lap – the late frontman of rock band The Wall, who died in March last year after a short battle with cancer, will take place in Ha Noi this weekend.

Lap, who died at the age of 42, just four months after being diagnosed with cancer, was widely admired for his energy, optimism and “fighting spirit” after his diagnosis.

One month after Lap was informed about his cancer, his band members, who are also his close friends, decided to hold a concert in January 2016 to support him. At the emotional concert Lap was brought onto the stage in a wheelchair and the rocker was able to sing along with his friends. When he finished the song, accompanied by thousands of fans, Lap waved to the crowd and said “See you again”. Tears flowed amongst the crowd on seeing their hero.

One year after his death, his widow, together with his friends, decided to organise a tribute concert, named See You Again – the last words Lap said to his fans. The one-night concert, taking place this Sunday at the Quan Ngua Gymnasium, will reunite former members of The Wall. Some leading Vietnamese singers such as Tung Duong, Pham Anh Khoa, Ta Quang Thang, and rock bands Microwave and Pentatonic, will also perform some of The Wall’s hits.

All proceeds will be donated to Lap’s son Binh Minh, 14, and daughter Minh Tu, 10.

Formed in 1994, The Wall is one of the most influential bands in modern Vietnamese rock with several hits to their name, including Duong Den Ngay Vinh Quang (Road to Glory), Bong Hong Thuy Tinh (Glass Rose) and Tam Hon Cua Da (Soul of Stone), which was composed by Lap. Although they split up in 2006, the group still maintained their legions of fans across the country.
