HA NOI – Vietnamese fashionista Nguyen Cong Tri will present his “traditional and modern” collection at the 2nd Tokyo Fashion Week.

Tri, who is a self-taught designer based in HCM City, impacted the world of Vietnamese fashion in 2000 when he won first prize in the New Idea category at Viet Nam’s Grand Prix, with his Green Leaves fashion collection, and also became the first Vietnamese designer to launch a dedicated house of Haute Couture.

He will introduce his latest collection Haute Couture No:10 at the prestigious Tokyo Fashion Week, which will be held on March 21 at Shibuya Hikarie Hall A.

Tri said that preparations for the show are almost finished. Following the success of his Lua (Rice) collection, the designer continues to merge a traditional and modern image in his products.

Tri is the only Vietnamese at the show and his Lua collection is mostly made from Lanh My A silk of Tan Chau people in the northern province of An Giang.

“All designs are initiated from the images of Vietnamese women in ao ba ba (Vietnamese silk ensemble), working in rice paddy fields,” said Tri.

Tokyo Fashion Week is one of the world’s most renowned fashion shows. Tri is the only designer from Viet Nam to have been invited to exhibit at the show twice. VNS
