HA NOI — Nguyen Hoang Giang secured a win in the ninth stage of the Return to the Countryside cycling tournament yesterday.
Giang of Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang completed the 76km stage from Kien Tuong Town of Long An Province to Hong Ngu District of Dong Thap Province with a time of 1hr 51.22min.
Green jersey holder Phan Hoang Thai of Domesco Dong Thap came second and Jay Lampawog of team Go for Gold from the Philippines finished third.
Nguyen Nhat Nam of Domesco Dong Thap remained the tour leader with the best time of 18:14.43, followed by Quach Tien Dung of the Military Zone 7 and Nguyen Pham Quoc Khang from Bike Life Dong Nai.
Thai who grabbed two out of three sprints yesterday continues as favourite for the green jersey as he has collected 106 points, leaving his nearest rival Lampawog far behind on 77.
There is no change in the team rankings, Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang, Bike Life Dong Nai and Go for Gold are the three top teams, respectively.
Today, cyclists will take part in the 10th 80km stage from Chau Doc City to Long Xuyen City of An Giang Province in the morning. The tournament will wrap up in the afternoon after a 25-lap of 25km around Trung Nu Vuong Square in Long Xuyen. — VNS
