HA NOI — HCM City defeated Trang An Ninh Binh 3-2 in the first round of Group B at the National Volleyball Championship on Sunday.
The game was held in Gia Lam District’s Gymnasium in Ha Noi. HCM City won 25-23, 23-25, 33-31, 17-21, 15-10.
Notably, Trang An Ninh Binh have three national players - Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Giang Van Duc and Nguyen Hoang Thuong - who played at the Asian Volleyball Championship last year in which Viet Nam ranked 10th for the first time.
The team’s former national player, Nguyen Van Hanh, was judged the best player in the game.
HCM City team do not have any national players at the national ongoing event.
Meanwhile, in the northern province of Hai Duong’s Gymnasium, Lienvietpostbank beat Mikado Thai Binh 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-20) in the first round of Group A.
The event, in which 10 male teams and 10 female teams across the country are participating, will give away a total prize of VND432 million (US$18,780).
The winners and runners-up in each group will earn tickets to compete for the Hung Vuong Cup, which will be held in the northern province of Phu Tho from April 24-27.
The second round of the championship will be organised from December 25-28 this year. — VNS
