HCM City — Lai Ly Huynh triumphed at the National Chinese Chess Tournament which concluded in HCM City on Sunday.
Huynh from Binh Duong won a gold medal in the men’s standard event after winning seven matches and drawing to stand on eight points.
Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang of HCM City and Ton That Nhat Tan of Da Nang were the runners-up.
In the blitz event, Huynh continued to prove his powers with eight points after nine rounds.
Nguyen Hoang Lam B of HCM City and Chu Tuan Hai of Hue finished second and third.
In the standard event on the women’s side, veteran Nguyen Hoang Yen of HCM City gained 4.5 points after seven rounds to win gold, followed by Tran Tue Doanh of HCM City and Le Thi Kim Loan of Ha Noi.
Dam Thi Thuy Dung of HCM City took gold in the women’s blitz category with five points after five rounds, followed by Yen and Loan.
Following this event, players will take part in the Asian Youth Chinese Chess Open to be held in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province from December 15-20. — VNS
