HA NOI — Tran Tuan Minh grabbed his second gold medal at the National Chess Championships’ rapid chess event which ended yesterday in Ha Noi.
The Grandmaster (GM) from the hosts has nine points after 11 rounds, as many as No 1 seed Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son of Can Tho, but he took the title due to a better parameter.
GM Son, who triumphed in the blitz chess two days ago, earned a silver while the bronzes went to GM Nguyen Duc Hoa of the Army team and Dang Hoang Son of HCM City.
Minh earlier won the standard chess event on Sunday.
On the women’s side, Women’s GM Nguyen Thi Thanh An of HCM City secured her title with nine points.
She is followed by International Master Pham Le Thao Nguyen of Can Tho in second place and WGM Nguyen Thi Mai Hung of Bac Giang and HCM City’s Hoang Thi Bao Tram who shared the third position. — VNS
