HA NOI — Ly Hoang Nam booked a ticket to compete in the second round of the men’s singles category of the Viet Nam F5 Futures – Hai Dang Cup 2018 in the southern province of Tay Ninh yesterday.
Nam, No 3 seed, beat Lukas Ollert of Germany 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 after one hour and 23 minutes in the first round.
Nam is world No 423, the highest in his career. Ollert is world No 717.
Nam met difficulties in the first set, but he proved his power in the next period to beat his German rival.
Meanwhile, No 1 seed and defending champion of Viet Nam F4 Futures, Roman Safiullin of Russia, also needed more than one hour to beat Paul C. Oosterbaan of the US 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.
On Sunday, Nam won the men’s doubles title at the Viet Nam F4 Futures. However, he missed the men’s singles title following a loss to Safiullin of Russia in the final. — VNS
