HA NOI — Top Vietnamese tennis player Ly Hoang Nam won the first round of the first Viet Nam Tennis Federation Pro Tour 1 which opened in Vung Tau City on January 28.
Nam of Becamex Binh Duong, No 1 seed, defeated his teammate Le Trung Khang 6-1, 6-1 in the men’s singles.
In other news, Hoang Thanh Trung of People’s Police easily beat Vu Thai Nam of Ha Noi 6-0, 6-2.
Trinh Linh Giang of Becamex Binh Duong, No 2 seed, crushed young ace Truong Thanh Minh of Ninh Thuan 6-0, 6-1.
While Le Khac Tung Lam of Da Nang, No 4 seed surprisingly lost to Huynh Minh Thinh of Binh Duong 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.
Vu Artem, No 7 seed, lost to Tran Tien Thinh of Hung Thinh 5-7, 6-2, 6-7(3) after three hours.
The event attracted the participation of around 100 players, competing in four categories -- men’s and women’s singles and doubles.
The men’s singles winner will take home VND40 million (US$1,800), while the women’s singles winner will get VND30 million ($1,300).
The men’s doubles champions will win VND10 million ($450), and the female champions will receive VND8 million ($360). — VNS
