BÌNH ĐỊNH — An athlete died during the 21km category of the VnExpress Marathon Sparkling Quy Nhơn, according to the organising board this morning.
Runner Trần Công Đại Phúc, born in 1977, passed away on Monday afternoon after more than a day of treatment at Bình Định Provincial General Hospital.
Phúc had health problems when participating in the 21km distance on Sunday. Although the doctors did their best to save him, he did not survive.
Phúc participated in the event with his wife. He started having health problems at the 17th kilometre.
The event's organising board said it had cooperated with Bình Định Provincial People's Committee to set up a group to take care of the funeral with Phúc's family in Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province.
The tournament attracted around 10,000 runners this year, becoming the biggest race ever in the VnExpress Marathon system. VNS
