HA NOI — Viet Nam’s top cyclist Nguyen Thi That will join Belgian women’s professional cycling team Lotto-Soudal Ladies at the start of 2019.
“I am so grateful I got recruited by the team,” said That. “I have trained and competed in many races in Europe so this is not a first for me. I will make use of this opportunity to get more experience to achieve my target, a ticket to the Olympics in 2020.”
Lotto–Soudal Ladies is a professional women’s cycling team based in Belgium, which competes in elite road and track cycling events such as the UCI Women’s Road World Cup. The team was established in 2006 and its colours are white, blue and red.
That is among those brought in to replace the four cyclists leaving the team after this season.
A couple months ago, during a training programme in Switzerland, That competed for UCI Centre Mondial and won the first stage of Belgian Dwars door de Westhoek race. Her victory impressed Lotto-Soudal Ladies.
After an unsuccessful trip to ASIAD, she has another aim: the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. By racing in major European events, she will have a better chance of qualifying for the Olympic Games. — VNS
