VN lose to Altay in Asian volleyball tournament

HA NOI — Viet Nam lost to Kazakhstan’s Altay in the SMM 2017 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship on July 3.

Viet Nam lost 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25 in Group E.

Despite the defeat, Viet Nam entered the knock-out quarter-finals, which will be held today. They will face Japan’s Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza.

Altay will now take on Beijing Baic Motor, Sarmayeh Bank will face Al-Bahri, and Al Arabi will go up against Taichung Commercial Bank.

The four winning teams will book semi-final berths, while the losing teams will slip from the fifth to eighth positions.

The championship runs till July 6. The winners will secure their berth in next year’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship as Asia’s representatives. — VNS
