HCM CITYThe HCM City Department of Tourism on January 5 began issuing a code of conduct it had drawn up for tourists visiting the city to ensure they behave appropriately in public.

It is in five languages -- Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Korean, and Russian -- and printed on what looks like a collapsible fan.

It lists eight do’s and dont’s.

Visitors are asked to comply with local laws and regulations, respect local customs and practices as well as the rules and regulations at tourist sites and other public places.

They are also advised to be respectful and helpful to disabled and older people, children and women and protect the environment.

They are warned against consuming, buying, selling and using banned substances, wildlife or endangered species and causing damage to artefacts and historical and cultural relics.

While not an injunction, they are requested not to waste food.

It is available now at three- to five-star hotels, travel agencies, Tan Son Nhat International Airport, tourist information centres and diplomatic agencies.

A total of 75,000 copies will be released this month and 75,000 more in June. —VNS
