HCM CITY — “The Albion by Kirk Westaway”, opened by Kirk Westaway, the head chef of the two-star Michelin restaurant JAAN in Singapore, is the first restaurant in HCM City to offer modern British cuisine.
Located on the 23rd floor of Hôtel des Arts Saigon in District 3, this casual dining concept restaurant is overseen by Chef Christopher Clarke, Kirk's business partner.
It features a large bar at the entrance, an open kitchen area, and a 60-seat dining area with a panoramic city view.
The restaurant’s design is inspired by 1930s British style, featuring wooden interiors, wallpaper, seating upholstered in a dominant navy blue, along with antique decorative items.
The menu includes four sections - Let’s Begin, Main Courses, To Share, and Something Sweet - and is known for its specialty dish with scallops and salads.
Kirk, the restaurant's owner, said that Việt Nam has always been a top destination on his travel list, and he loves its culture and distinctive cuisine.
The Vietnamese and the British share similar taste preferences, both enjoying light flavours and a love of vegetables, he added.
Kirk said the idea for The Albion came when he noticed the lack of British restaurants in the city, and it took two years to establish.
Like JAAN in Singapore, he wants to bring modern-style British dishes to Việt Nam to show that its cuisine is diverse and more exciting than people think. – VNS
