LONDON — Dozens of paintings by leading modern Vietnamese painters Nguyen Tu Nghiem and Bui Xuan Phai in the collection of Swedish collector Hugentobler are on display at two galleries in London.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese ambassador to the UK Tran Ngoc An expressed his joy with the developing relationship between the UK and Viet Nam.
The relationship has improved in diplomacy, the economy, trade, defence, education and culture, he said.
He said he enjoyed seeing Londoners pay more attention to Vietnamese culture and arts.
At the ceremony, attendants were briefed on Vietnamese modern fine arts, the establishment of the Indochine Fine Arts College and the influence of French artists on the work of Nguyen Tu Nghiem (1922-2016) and Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988).
Researcher Louise Malcom gave a talk on four leading painters in Vietnamese modern fine arts: Bui Xuan Phai, Nguyen Sang, Duong Bich Lien and Nguyen Tu Nghiem.
The exhibition of Phai’s paintings is at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour while Nghiem’s paintings are dispalyed at No 6 Mason’s Yard, St Jame’s, London till November 9. — VNS
