A screening of Russian composer Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin, performed by the New York-based Metropolitan Opera, will be held at the C. Bechstein Showroom on May 18.
The three-act opera is based on a novel in verse written by Pushkin. It is about the beautiful girl Tatyana who falls in love with the rich man Onegin. But he rejects her. He flirts with her sister Olga to outrage Lenksy, Olga’s fiance and his only friend.
He later kills Lensky in a duel. He lives with his guilt and love for Tatyana, but she later rejects him.
A discussion hosted by composer and MC Trần Như Vĩnh Lạc on the opera and Pushkin’s novel will be held before the screening.
The programme is part of Saigon Classical Music Group’s project “From Alpha to Opera”, which aims to introduce the world’s classical operas.
