HÀ NỘI — Singer Hà Lê has released his latest music video Mưa Hồng (Pink Rain) featuring one of the most popular songs by Vietnamese composer Trịnh Công Sơn. The song has been remixed in an electronic style.
The music video is part of his on-going project “Trịnh Contemporary”, which aims to bring a breath of fresh air to the music of the late composer.
Earlier, in April, the singer, who is also a hip hop dancer and choreographer, stirred up controversy when he revealed his intention to “renew” Trịnh Công Sơn’s music with a modern twist including contemporary dance and, even, rap.
In his new music video Mưa Hồng, Lê performs together with emerging jazz and dreampop singer Bùi Lan Hương. Hương has grabbed the title New Artist of the Year at the Vietnamese “Grammy” Devotion Awards in April.

In between the electronic-style melodies, listeners can hear the harmonious sound of the Vietnames đàn bầu (monochord) by musician Quang Hưng.
According to the singer, the monochord sound is to add a note of “tradition” to the new version, which have been remixed completely from the original version.
“My wish is to bring a new and fresh appearance to his [Trịnh Công Sơn] immortal melodies while still maintaining the pureness of the lyrics,” said the singer in April when he told local media about his music project.
The music video is the second product in the project “Trịnh Contemporary”, following Diễm Xưa (Diễm, My Cherished Old Flame), which features the singer performing the song in a new arrangement, with contemporary dancing as well. — VNS
