HA NOI — Singer Pham Thu Ha is always trying to break musical boundaries, and her latest offering does just that, with the music video Vu Dieu Binh Minh (The Dance of Sunrise) featuring her soprano voice accompanied by dance music.

A production between the singer and composer and music producer Vo Thien Thanh, the video debuted in the monthly music programme Bai Hat Toi Yeu (The Song I Love) of Viet Nam Television on Saturday. The song is a single from her album Classic Meets Dance, scheduled for relapse next year.

The album is the second project of the singer and the HCM City-based producer after their album Classic Meets Chillout in 2012, which won the title ‘Album of the Year’ at Viet Nam’s Devotion Music Awards the same year.

Thanh has been a hugely influential figure in the Hanoian singer’s path as one of few pioneering pop-opera singers in Viet Nam.

Speaking at the launch of Vu Dieu Binh Minh in Ha Noi recently, Thanh said he decided to combine electronic music and orchestra because “this combination can activate effectively the imagination of listeners, especially when they see the impressive and beautiful scenes of the video.”

The video was filmed on Ta Xua – a high mountain range between the northern provinces of Son La and Yen Bai, with a picturesque landscape enhanced by a sea of clouds.

“The whole team was working very, very hard during the filming process on Ta Xua, which was interrupted by bad weather. We were blocked by floods, which destroyed most of the road leading to the filming spot. We had to rely on the assistance of local people who used their ropes to help us access the place,” singer Ha revealed.

Following the launch of Vu Dieu Binh Minh, Ha will have a concert on Thursday night at the Ha Noi’s St Joseph Cathedral, where she will perform several classic songs, including Ave Maria, Silent Night, Oh Holy Night and Joy to the World.

Alongside her debut album Classic Meets Chillout and the soon-to-be-launched Classic Meets Dance, Ha has also released albums such as Classic Meets Pop, Classic Meets Jazz and the vinyl LP Duong Em Di (Your Road) featuring songs by Pham Duy. — VNS
