HÀ NỘI — The impressive 3D panorama painting showcasing the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign, which captivates visitors at the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum in the northern province of Điện Biên, will now be exhibited in Hà Nội using 3D mapping technology.

This exhibition, taking place at the Monument of Sacrifice by Hoàn Kiếm (Sword) Lake from May 3-5, is part of the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the momentous Điện Biên Phủ Victory on May 7, 1954.

It offers visitors, especially those who haven't had the chance to visit the historical landmarks, an opportunity to experience unique artwork and gain deeper insight into the significance and duration of the "world-shaking" victory.

The extraordinary circular oil on canvas painting measures 132m long, 20.5m high, and 42m in diameter, with an additional 6m embossed section, covering a total area of over 3,200 sq.m. Created by 200 painters starting in November 2019 and completed in May 2022, it features over 4,500 characters.

Depicting the "56 days and nights of tunneling through mountains, seeking refuge in bomb shelters, enduring pouring rain, and surviving on rice balls," the painting portrays the challenging conditions faced by the Vietnamese army and people during the creation of the "Điện Biên Phủ Victory that shook the world".

Utilising 3D mapping technology, which involves creating three-dimensional representations of objects, environments, or spaces, the display is enhanced with sound and light effects to evoke deep emotions in a vibrant, heroic, and epic setting. Viewers can witness the entire panorama of the 56-day and night battle.

The exhibition is divided into four sections: the people's departure for battle, the epic prelude, the historical confrontation, and the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, with each section screened for 10 minutes. The display will be repeated across all four sections.

The Điện Biên Phủ Campaign, the culminating confrontation of the First Indochina War, occurred between March 13 and May 7, 1954, under the command of General Võ Nguyên Giáp. It marked a pivotal moment that led to the signing of the 1954 Geneva Accords and the end of the war in Indochina.

The installation of the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign aims to honour Vietnamese heroes and martyrs, contributing to the preservation of the battlefield images of Điện Biên Phủ. It is considered a groundbreaking work and a testament to Vietnamese artistry.

The 3D Mapping presentation will commence at 7:30pm on May 3 at the Monument of Sacrifice by Hoàn Kiếm (Sword) Lake. — VNS
