HCM CITY HCM City will host the 11th annual music gala to raise public welfare funds for soldiers and people living in border areas and islands on October 22.
The event called Hướng Về Biên Giới, Biển, Đảo Tổ Quốc (Towards the Country’s Borders, Seas and Islands) is co-organised by the Việt Nam Motherland Front Committee of HCM City and the HCM City Television (HTV).
Phạm Minh Tuấn, vice chairman of the city's front committee, said the event aims to introduce the daily life of soldiers and people living on the borders, islands and seas, and give support for those who are protecting the sovereignty of the country.
He added it also promoted national solidarity among Vietnamese people to raise their awareness of sovereignty protection.
The 75-minute show will present songs praising the country and its islands and seas featuring singers who have travelled to the country’s borders, seas and islands.
The performances will also include those by border guards and naval soldiers.
The show will present a discussion about the city’s activities to support people and soldiers who patrol the country’s borders and seas.
All the proceeds from the gala will go to the city’s fund to buy motorbikes and daily necessities including solar lights, fans, televisions, computers, printers, and sports equipment for people and soldiers on the islands in the southwestern region.
The organizers will also host activities for public welfare at the coastal district of Cần Giờ’s Thạnh An Commune, such as upgrading its public park, and offering scholarships and free health examinations for poor people.
Since 2013, the Hướng Về Biên Giới, Biển, Đảo Tổ Quốc gala has received a total of VNĐ515 billion (US$20,67 million) for the fund.
The music gala will be held at 7:30pm at the HTV Theatre and broadcast live on HTV1. VNS
