HẢI DƯƠNG — The specialties of the northern province of Hải Dương will be featured at a street carnival to be held on 30/10 Square in Hải Dương Province on October 26.
With the theme “Thành Đông – Sức Sống Mới” (Thành Đông – New Vitality), the carnival aims to celebrate the official decision of the Prime Minister, recognising Hải Dương City as a first-class city.
Trương Mạnh Long, vice chairman of the province’s People’s Committee, said the ceremony to announce the recognition of the Prime Minister would be a chance to review history and educate people about the revolutionary tradition and the establishment of Hải Dương City (1804), which was formerly named Thành Đông.
The event will also celebrate the 65th anniversary of Hải Dương City’s liberation day (October 30, 1954 – October 30, 2019) and honour the achievements of officials, Party members and citizens in recent years, he added.
To prepare for the ceremony, the city is renovating roads, sidewalks and flower gardens; planting more trees; and improving lighting and traffic systems. The city will also deploy a waste classification project.
The vice chairman said the street carnival would create a cultural space for the community; preserve and promote local cultural values as well as specialties of each region within the province; and meet demand for enjoying and exchanging cultures among locals and visitors.
In the event, decorated caravans representing each region in the province, major enterprises and local specialties will join the march, together with groups of artists from both provinces and nearby localities.
“Hải Dương City will invite artists from nearby provinces to perform in the carnival as well to honour intangible cultural heritage like chèo singing, water puppets and traditional wrestling,” Long said.
Many other sideline activities will be organised on this occasion including the 15th festival for trade villages, a photo contest and an international conference to promote agricultural products in the Red River Delta. — VNS
