HCM City — Vietnamese American singer Le Thi Y Lan will celebrate her 60th birthday with a live music show entitled Thuong Ai (Whom Are You Missing) at a tea house at District 3, HCM City this evening.
Lan said she will sing famous songs like Thuong mot nguoi (Loving Someone), Nu hon duoi mua (The Kiss Under the Rain), Sa mac tinh yeu (Desert of Love), Sao van con mua roi (Why It Is Still Raining?), Anh trang tan (The Dying Moon) and Co ua (The Withered Grass).
The singer will also perform songs which brought fame to her mother, singer Thai Thanh, including Kiep nao co yeu nhau (If We Fall in Love in Some Other Life), Nua hon thuong dau (Half of the Broken Soul) Nghin trung xa cach (A Thousand Miles Between Us).
Lan said she is always asked by her fans to sing these songs, “I feel really touched when the audience adores my mom’s voice. Being her daughter, everytime I cover her songs on the stage, I feel so blessed.”
Visibly moved, she said her mother may not have the chance to see a Vietnamese audience again. “Currently, my mother is undergoing treatment at a hospital in America. At the age of 83, her health is getting worse day by day. She can not travel by plane.”
Lan was born in 1958 in HCM City to a family of artists. In addition to her mother’s vocal talents, she is also influenced by her father, actor Le Quynh. She became a professional singer towards the end of the 80’s. She lives in California and has performed many music shows in Viet Nam. VNS
