World-renowned violin virtuoso Shlomo Mintz to perform in Việt Nam

HÀ NỘI  A special concert featuring a performance by world-renowned violin virtuoso Shlomo Mintz will take place at the Grand Concert Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music on September 8.

The "Shlomo Mintz and Friends" concert also marks the first time the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sun Symphony Orchestra will officially perform together, along with esteemed artists Bùi Công Duy, Chương Vũ and Olivier Orchanine. They will perform renowned compositions by two legendary composers, Ludwig van Beethoven and Antonio Vivaldi.

Mintz said that he had heard a lot about Vietnamese culture and had a strong desire to learn more about the country. For a long time, he has wanted to visit and perform in Việt Nam to witness everything first-hand.

He was born in 1957 in Moscow, Russia. At the age of two, he and his family moved to Israel. Shlomo began studying the violin at the age of three and pursued a lifelong career in the field of classical music. At the age of eleven, he made his debut on a major stage, performing with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mintz has been acclaimed as a renowned guest artist, performing alongside numerous distinguished orchestras and exceptional conductors, captivating audiences with his unique style of playing.

He has been honoured with numerous prestigious international awards, including the Premio Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Diapason d'Or, Grand Prix du Disque, Gramophone Award, Edison Award, and Cremona Music Award.

In 2006, he was conferred with an Honourary Degree from Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba, Israel, and in 2022, he was recognised as a Honourary Professor by the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in Israel.

He was invited to serve as the chairman of the jury for the Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition in Japan for several years.

From 2002 to 2011, he was the chairman of the jury for the Sion Valais International Violin Competition in Switzerland, and from 2012 to 2018, he served as the Artistic Director of the Crans-Montana Classics, a high-level violin course and festival in Switzerland.

In 2019, collaborating with the DECCA label, he released Ysaÿe Six Violin Sonatas Op. 27 and another CD featuring Mendelssohn Concertos. To commemorate Mintz's 60th birthday, Deutsche Grammophon reissued his recorded works in a 13-CD box set, including legendary recordings of violin concertos by composers such as Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, Sibelius, Lalo, and Vieuxtemps, performed with renowned orchestras and conductors.

In recent years, in addition to his talents as a violinist, violist, and orchestra conductor, Mintz has gained recognition in the field of composition. His composition, Anthem to an Unknown Nation, was premiered in June 2017 at the Vigadó Grand Hall in Budapest. Additionally, his Sonatina for violin and piano had its first performances in Domodossola and Istanbul in October 2017.

Currently, he serves as an Advisor and Chairman of the Jury for the Buenos Aires International Violin Competition in Argentina and the Chairman of the Jury and Artistic Director of the Tucuman Festival in Argentina. - VNS
