HCM CITY - An additional 80 public bike rental stations will be opened in District 1 and District 4 to serve locals and tourists in HCM City.
The city's Department of Transport has issued a list of streets and sidewalks in the two districts eligible for the opening of public bike rental stations.
Specifically, 68 stations will be set up on sidewalks along 35 streets in District 1, while 12 stations along seven roads in District 4 will be put into operation.
Each station can accommodate up to 10 public bikes.
Among the streets in District 1 eligible for public bike rental stations are Điện Biên Phủ, Hai Bà Trưng, Hàm Nghi, Lê Duẫn, and Huỳnh Thúc Kháng.
Meanwhile, District 4 will have stations on Hoàng Diệu, Nguyễn Trường Tộ, and Vĩnh Khánh streets.
The expansion of the public bike rental service follows soaring demand in the city, according to the City Management Center of Public Transport.
The city inaugurated the service in District 1 in late 2021, putting 500 bicycles to use at 43 stations.
The southern metropolis aims to open hundreds of new public bike rental stations in 2024 in an effort to bring the service to all of its districts and Thu Duc City.
As planned, city authorities will set up six stations in Nhà Bè District, two stations in District 5, four stations in District 6, and 159 public bike rental points in Thủ Đức City. VNS
