ĐỒNG NAI — The National Athletics Championships 2024 will be held from November 9-13 in Đồng Nai Province.
As one of the most popular and important events in Việt Nam, the annual tournament features more than 500 of the strongest athletes from 52 cities and provinces.
They will compete in 50 individuals and teams events for men, women and mixed, at the Đồng Nai Stadium.
The competitions are the most important in the diary for track-and-field competitors and the final event of 2024, with no more domestic and international tournament this year.
So it will also be a last opportunity for the scouts to hunt for the best athletes for the national teams ahead of Việt Nam's key dates of the 33rd SEA Games in 2025 and the 20th Asian Games in 2026.
“The National Athletics Championships is always a tough and competitive event in term of expertise. Coaching boards must have plans so that their athletes will reach their best form there," said Việt Nam Athletics Federation General Secretary Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng. “The athletes' results will show how intensively each local federation has been in preparing for the championships.
“We will base our picks for the national teams based on their achievements" he said.
At present, the current national team members include Quách Thị Lan and Lê Thị Tuyết Mai in the women's 400m and 400m hurdles, Hà Thị Thu and Phùng Thị Huệ in the women's 100m, Nguyễn Thị Oanh in the women's 3.000m steeplechase and Nguyễn Thành Ngưng and Võ Xuân Vĩnh in the men's race walking, but the organising committee are always on the look out for fresh talent.
