HÀ NỘI — Goalkeeper Đặng Văn Lâm has signed a three-year contract with Bình Định FC and is expected to play his first match for his new team in the V.League 1 this weekend.
Although the transfer value and salary were not disclosed, it was reported that the goalkeeper, whose father is Vietnamese and mother is Russian, will be one of the highest earners in Vietnamese football.
It is thought the 28-year-old will be paid around US$17,000 per month before tax. On top of this, he will receive bonuses and sponsorship deals.
Lâm left HCM City on Tuesday to train with his new teammates in Quy Nhơn to prepare for the next match against Thanh Hóa.
“When competing in Thailand and Japan, I want to find opportunities and challenges for myself," Lâm said.
"Now, I think about my family more, so I want to go back to Việt Nam to play. Being able to wear the Bình Định jersey for more than three years makes me happy."
Bình Định is an emerging giant in the national top flight league with an investment of VNĐ300 billion in three years and Lâm will be an important player to help the team's dream of winning titles.
Before closing the contract with Bình Định, Lâm also negotiated with HCM City, but he always favoured a move to the ambitious Bình Định outfit.
After leaving Thai team Muangthong United, Lâm joined Japanese club Cerezo Osaka on a two year contract. But in Japan, the No 1 goalkeeper of the Vietnamese team had few opportunities to compete regularly.
Lâm was born in Moscow. He began his career with Hoàng Anh Gia Lai and was a key part of Park Hang-seo’s national team squad.
He made significant contributions to Việt Nam’s triumph in the AFF Cup 2018, qualifying for the 2019 Asian Cup quarter-finals, and in the 2022 World Cup AFC qualifiers. So far, Lâm has had more than 20 caps for the Vietnamese national team. — VNS
