HÀ NỘI -- Trịnh Thu Vinh has been listed as a world top ten in the women's 25m pistol event after her performance at the Paris Olympics.
In her first time taking part in the world's largest sporting arena, Vinh finished seventh among eight finalists. Earlier, she placed fourth in the 10m air pistol event.
These two achievements made the 23-year-old one of the ten strongest shooters, a leap from No 29.
South Korean Yang Jiin who won Olympic gold is the No 1, followed by Camille Jedrzejewski of France and Doreen Vennekamp of Germany.
In the 10m air pistol Vinh is now ranked number 17.
Kim Yeji of South Korea, Zorana Arunovic of Serbi and Oh Ye Jin of South Korea are top three.
Vinh is currently training in Hà Nội in preparation for the six Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in November in Thailand.
Trịnh Văn Vinh is confident ahead of his Olympic medal quest.
In other Olympics news, Trịnh Văn Vinh is the only Vietnamese athlete to compete on August 7 night in Paris.
Vinh has registered 303kg for his start of his Olympic medal campaign in the men's 61kg class. It is much higher than his latest result of 294kg at the recent Olympic qualification. His personal best is 307kg.
Only three have registered to lift heavier than Vinh, they are defending champion Li Fabin of China, Eko Yuli of Indonesia and Sergio Massida of Italy at 310kg.
Vinh said he clearly knew his rivals and their abilities and he was confident he could overcome challenges to make a top three finish. VNS
