PARIS — Two Vietnamese swimmers will vie for medals after both qualified for the finals of the Paris Paralympics on September 1.
Đỗ Thanh Hải and Lê Tiến Đạt were the first Việt Nam's competitors at the 17th Summer Games.
They competed against seven rivals in the men's 100m breaststroke SB5 event at the Paris La Defense Arena.
Eight of them with better result would qualify for the finals.
In the first heat, Hải was against three rivals. He finished second in a time of 1min 35.41sec and secured Việt Nam's first final slot.
2023 Asian Games champion Đạt was third finisher in the second heat, timing 1:36.01, and took the second slot.

In summary, the heat winner was Spanish Antoni Ponce Bertran who swam in 1:30.45.
He is also the title favourite in the finals that will be organised early morning September 2 Hà Nội time.
Hải placed fourth and Đạt fifth, needing more effort to be in top three. — VNS
