HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam joined Thailand in the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2024's semi-finals after its biggest ever 14-0 win over Brunei on November 5 in Korat, Thailand.

In the penultimate group stage matches, Việt Nam delivered their best performance to score three goals in the first half and 11 in the second, giving no time for Brunei to resist.

Trần Thái Huy fired in a hattrick (2nd, 3rd and 27th minute) to be followed by a brace each from Từ Minh Quang (33rd and 34th) and Huỳnh Mi Woen (36th and 37th).

The remaining goals were scored by Châu Đoàn Phát in the 11th minute, Trần Nhật Trung (21st), Nguyễn Mạnh Dũng (23rd), Phạm Đức Hòa (26th), Nguyễn Thịnh Phát (30th), Nguyễn Đa Hải (39th) and Vũ Ngọc Anh (39th).

Việt Nam maintained a perfect three out of three in Group A.

They had previously scored a 4-1 win over Timor Leste in the opener and a 2-0 victory against Malaysia two days later.

Việt Nam will next play Thailand, who also put up a great score sheet, beating Malaysia 3-1 on November 5, alongside their 13-0 win over Brunei DS and then 7-1 over Timor Leste earlier.

With three wins each, Việt Nam and Thailand secured semi-final places.

Diego Giustozzi praised his players saying they gave the best and really respected the Brunei side.

The World Cup-winning coach said Việt Nam played match by match, but still need to improve their performance for the upcoming games.

Regarding the match against Thailand, Giustozzi said the host side were the ones to beat in this regional tournament. Việt Nam has never beaten Thailand, so the whole team must pay at one hundred per cent, if they want a win, he said. VNS
