HÀ NỘI — Four Vietnamese athletes are being asked to bring home medals from the 2024 World Junior Weightlifting Championships in Spain later this month.

Đỗ Tú Tùng and K’Dương will take part in the men's 55kg category, Dương Tuấn Kiệt will be competing in the men's 61kg, while Trần Minh Trí is in the men's 67kg class.

Tùng and K’Dương are especially favoured to win medals as they have already achieved excellent international results.

Tùng won three golds at the 2023 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships, while K’Dương is the world and Asian record holder in the youth 55kg category, with his lifts of 113kg in snatch, 143kg in clean & jerk and 256kg in total.

According to the coaching board, all four lifters are the best in their categories and have lots of potential to achieve great results in future major events.

Before leaving for Spain, they will have to undergo testing and complete the Anti-Doping Education and Learning Platform certificate, a mandatory requirement of the WADA.

The world championships will be held from September 19 to 27, featuring nearly 370 competitors, 168 women, from about 60 countries and regions. VNS
