HCM CITY — Various kinds of fruit from Southern provinces are being introduced at HCM City’s “Trên Bến Dưới Thuyền” (On the Wharf - In the Boat) Fruit Festival in District 8.
The event includes more than 100 stalls offering the region’s signature fruits such as durian, mangosteen, mango and grapefruit that satisfy VietGap and Global Gap standards
It also offers different kinds of fruit-based drinks and food produced by local manufacturers.
Nguyễn Thị Thu Hoa, deputy chairwoman of the district’s People’s Committee, said, “The festival is one of the city’s outstanding events since it was first held in 2022. The event aims to honour the agricultural values of different regions, and promote special kinds of fruit of the region among local and foreign visitors.”
Apart from fruit of the Southern region, the festival introduces special products from different regions such as asparagus, grapes, and green apples from the Central province of Ninh Thuận, and dried persimmon and artichoke syrup from the Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands) province of Đà Lạt.
In addition, visitors can learn how to make bánh tro, which is made of sticky rice and soaked in ash water (the ash comes from burning leaves such as dried sesame or rice straw). It is often eaten during the Double-Fifth Festival.
There are performances of tài tử music and lion dragon dance during the festival as well.
The festival is open at Bình Đông Wharf until June 10. — VNS
