HCM CITY — The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Long An has launched the province’s first rural tourism product in Tân Trụ District.
The tour, entitled “Tân Trụ quê hương em” (My hometown Tân Trụ), takes visitors to Vàm Nhựt Tảo historical relic, An Nhựt Tân mat-making village, and Bình An drum-making village.
Visitors can explore the beauty of peaceful unexplored village scenes and experience the local way of life, local specialties with dishes like canh chua cá (sour fish soup), cá kho tộ (caramelised fish in a clay pot), and cháo gà (chicken porridge).
On-site guides for the tour are students from primary and high schools in the province, making it more enjoyable for young visitors to join the tour.
Speaking at the tour launching ceremony on October 8, Lê Thị Cẩm Tú, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the new tour would lay a foundation for the development of rural tourism in the province.
Surrounded by the Vàm Cỏ Đông and Vàm Cỏ Tây rivers, Tân Trụ District is home to many historical relics and craft villages which have been preserved for hundreds of years.
Nguyễn Vũ Đạt, a visitor from HCM City’s Phú Nhuận District, said his daughter who is a fourth grader was very excited to take the tour, which gave her hands-on experience of craft villages and rural life.
More than 10,000 students visit the Vàm Nhựt Tảo historical relic a year, according to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. —VNS
