HCM CITY (VNS)— The nation's premier fashion event will take viewers on a "unique" journey from the catwalk to the sidewalk this year, presenting conceptual and applied creations of five top designing talents in Viet Nam.

Organisers of the Dep Fashion Show to be held later this month said at a press conference yesterday that the event is called Birth of Venus.

The audience will have a chance to "drift away in the space of conceptual fashion" on the first night and enjoy the demonstration of applied fashion on the second night, said Le Quoc Vinh, chairman of Le Media, one of the event organisers.

Explaining the title of the event, Vinh said Venus is the Roman goddess of love and beauty and the upcoming show is the 11th edition of the event.

"Eleven marks the start of a new cycle," he said.

The first night, Birth of Venus – Catwalk, will feature the collection of four designers Cong Tri, Giao Linh, Ly Qui Khanh, and Truong Thanh Long.

The spectacle will combine contemporary art with a sound and light display that highlights each designer's conceptualisation of Venus, using different materials and designs.

Cong Tri, who has been strongly attached to the show since its inception, says the poisonous mushroom – a thing of beauty with an element of danger, inspires his collection.

Giao Linh, the only female designer in Dep Fashion Show 11, combines velvet, silk, fur and other luxury materials to rouse "new emotions" on beauty.

More than 20 designs by Truong Thanh Long use the net as their decisive material and white and silver as their decisive colours, evoking images of sea waves and "movement that produces energy for life".

Ly Quy Khanh's collection of cloth, paper and iron frames will bring "special feelings" to the viewer.

The first night of the show will also be an interaction of abstract images, sound and models as "image magician" Le Thanh Tung famous video jockey, struts his stuff.

The second night, Birth of Venus – Sidewalk, will bring to life conceptualisations of the previous night "convincingly, closely and elegantly", Vinh said.

The four collections of designers Giao Linh, Ly Quy Khanh, Truong Thanh Long and Adrian Anh Tuan shown on the second night will run on the following themes: Fun&Young, Fresh, Bold and Dramatic.

Adrian Anh Tuan, who joins the show only on the second night, will impress viewers with an applied fashion collection that has "never ever appeared on any media", organisers claimed.

The collection will include signature necklaces made of thousands of crystal beads.

Vinh said at the press conference that he expected Charlie Nguyen, famous film director, to infuse fresh energy into the show. It is the first time that Nguyen is directing a fashion event.

Joining Nguyen in arranging the show is a team of famous artists including production directors Le Nhu Thoa and Dinh Hong Tham, creative director Ha Do, art director Le Quoc Hung, music director Tri Minh, catwalk director Xuan Lan and visual artist VJ Le Thanh Tung.

The show, organised by the Dep (Beautiful) magazine, Le Media and Le Bros companies, will take place on January 24 and 25 at the Nguyen Du Gymnasium in District 1, HCM City. — VNS
