YEN BAI (VNS)— A 2,000-year-old bronze drum was accidentally unearthed at a road construction site in the northern province of Yen Bai.
According to Ly Kim Thoa, deputy director of Yen Bai Provincial Museum, based on the shape and decorative patterns used, the drum was most likely a very old example of the Dong Son civilisation's Heger I type.
The drum is green and features sharp and fine decorative patterns. The construction work damaged the head of the drum and left a small hole there.
The artefact is being kept by Van Yen People's Committee. It will soon be moved to the provincial museum. -- VNS
