HCM CITY — An exhibition of visual artworks, From Melbourne to HCM City: Same – Same, displays the talents of emerging artists from Australia and Viet Nam.
The exhibition, on view at the HCM City Fine Arts University from May 10-20, was organised by the Australian Consulate-General and the city of Melbourne.
The artworks illustrate a broad range of approaches made by the artists, who tackle different issues by using similar concepts and aesthetic methods to transcend cultural and geographic boundaries.
Australian Consul-General John McAnulty said that they [the consulate] we were delighted to work with the city of Melbourne to bring together artworks from Melbourne and HCM City.
"The HCM City artists were recipients of the HCM City Young Artists Grant Programme over the past seven years," he said.
"Targeting both youth and the artistic community, this exhibition builds on the already strong people-to-people links between Australia and Viet Nam and promotes a shared understanding of each other's culture."
The programme is an initiative of the city of Melbourne in co-operation with the Australian Consulate-General in HCM City.
The project supports young emerging visual artists living and working in HCM City. Since 2005, grants have been awarded to 31 artists, according to a press release from the Australian Consulate in HCM City.
The exhibition is held at 5 Phan Dang Luu Street in HCM City's Binh Thanh District. — VNS
