The host athletes performed successfully in track and field events and gymnastics grabbing nine gold medals, bringing their medal tally to 16.
Nguyen Thi Oanh won two golds in the girls' 200m and 4x400m team relay.
Her team-mates took titles in the girls' 800m, 2,000m and boys' 200m, 800m and high jump events.
The gymnastic winners were Le Thanh Tung in the boys' individual all-round and Tung and three teammates in the team all-round.
Malaysia replaced Thailand in second place with six gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals. Thailand was third on five golds, nine silvers and 13 bronzes.
Today, athletes will compete in track and fields, badminton, gymnastics, table tennis, pencak silat and swimming. – VNS
