HCM CITY (VNS) — The Dau An (Milestones) monthly live show in HCM City next Saturday, April 4 will feature the most successful woman musician and singer in the last 30 years – Phuong Uyen.
Uyen told a media briefing yesterday that she and singers who were associated with many of her career milestones would sing 16 out of her 400 songs.
They include those she had trained in reality shows and other contests and stars who sang many of her hits like Dam Vinh Hung, MTV band, Bee.T, Giang Hong Ngoc, and others.
Uyen began her career in the late 1980s as the leader of a family band named Ba Con Meo (Three Cats) with two of her sisters.
"She helped make the band a phenomenon, winning the top prize in the 1992 Pop-Rock Festival, one of the most impressive music shows of the time," the organiser told the press conference.
Ngau Hung Ngua O (Impromptu about the Black Horse, Tran Tien), Co Be U Sau (Melancholy girl, Nguyen Ngoc Thien), and Den Voi Tinh Yeu (Come to love), Uyen's first work as a composer and sung rock style, became the "trademark" of Ba Con Meo, they said.
In the mid-1990s, Uyen stood out as a leading composer. Songs she wrote for the band, like Me Yeu (Beloved mom) and Yeu Yeu Yeu (Love Love Love), were raging favourites during the time.
When the band broke up in 2001, Uyen quickly became the top musician and music producer in Viet Nam.
"It is impossible to count how many singers sing her songs and how many songs of hers brought glory to singers," the organiser said.
Her songs cover a range of topics like family, society, drugs, and LGBT issues.
The 19th Dau An concert will revive Ba Con Meo for the night, but how they will reunite and what they will perform is kept secret until the last minute by organiser.
It will also mark the first time a musician rather than a singer will feature in the event.
The concert starts at 8pm at the Nguyen Du Sport Stadium, 116 Nguyen Du Street, District 1. It will be broadcast live on VTV9. — VNS
