HCM CITY (VNS) — The classical ballet Coppelia choreographed by Johanne Jakhelln Constant of Norway will be restaged by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) at HCM City's Opera House next Thursday after two successful premiere nights in August.

"The dancers in the ballet were excellent... and the ballet attracted many young people who liked it due to its humour and drama," according to a press release from HBSO.

Coppelia, considered one of the greatest comic ballets of the 19th century, has remained one of the best-loved classical works in the ballet repertory.

Originally choreographed by Arthur St. Leon in 1870, restaged by Petipa in 1884, and revised by Cecchetti in 1894, it is performed regularly worldwide.

Constant, the choreographer of the performance in Viet Nam, has received three choreography awards for her original works Chairished and Flickering Blue.

She currently teaches classical ballet and dance history in the Department of Music, Dance and Drama at Bod High School in Norway.

Tickets are available at 7 Lam Son Square in District 1. — VNS
