HCM CITY (VNS) — Contemporary dance Vong Phu Bien (Waiting for Husband on the Shore) by choreographers and brothers Nguyen Phuc Hai and Nguyen Phuc Hung will premiere at the HCM City Opera House on Thursday.
To be part of an annual concert and dance programme performed by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO), the 25-minute recital by Hoang Yen, Thu Trang, Thuy Trang and the HBSO Ballet is about the faithfulness of Vietnamese women in marriage expressed in an enduring legend.
It is about a woman who petrifies into stone after sitting and waiting for her husband who went to battle.
"On this S-shaped strip of land, there is not just one such vong phu (waiting for husband) stone, but many," HBSO says in a release about the show.
Besides the piece, the programme will also feature several other contemporary compositions by young musicians like Duc Tri, Vu Viet Anh, Nguyen Manh Duy Linh, and Nguyen Do Anh Tuan.
The show will be presented by the HBSO Ensemble under the baton of Tran Nhat Minh.
The annual event, Vietnamese Contemporary Music & Dance, is an important one for HBSO as it helps showcase young and upcoming talent.
