Nguyen Thanh Binh clinched a silver medal in the men's English billiards singles event at the ongoing Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea yesterday.

HA NOI (VNS)— Nguyen Thanh Binh clinched a silver medal in the men's English billiards singles event at the ongoing Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea yesterday.

Binh was narrowly edged out by overall victor Chaithanasakun Praprut of Thailand in the final match.

Earlier, he defeated Praprut's fellow countryman Sjaritthurakarn Thawat in the quarter finals and overcame Gilchrist Peter Edward of Singapore in the semis.

Elsewhere, in the women's U55kg kick boxing point fighting discipline, Dao Thi Thoan grabbed a bronze medal after losing to Hattab Farah Ali Sudqi of Jordan in the semi-finals.

In the men's U74kg point fighting semi-final, Nguyen Van Su beat Abdulzahra Ahmed Kareem Abdulzahra of Iraq to reach the final and guarantee at least a silver medal.

In the women's 56kg full contact semi-final, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai saw off Khujaniyozova Shakhnoza of Uzbekistan, while Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung triumphed over Kim Minkyoung of South Korea in the women's U52kg low kick semi-final.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese competitors brought home one bronze medal in the rapid chess event.

After seven days of competition, Viet Nam ranked fifth in the medal tally with four golds, seven silvers and nine bronzes. China led with 28 golds, 11 silvers and 10 bronzes, followed by South Korea with 19 golds, 25 silvers and 16 bronzes, then Thailand with eight golds, three silvers and 10 bronzes. Kazakhstan finished fourth with six golds, five silvers and 16 bronzes.
