HA NOI (VNS) — Becamex Binh Duong knew the taste of victory at the National Cup, after beating Ha Noi T&T 4-2 in the final match on Saturday on their home turf, Go Dau Stadium.
It was their first win after three entering the final game of the tournament for the third time. In previous years, they lost to Ha Noi ACB in 2008 and Hai Phong in 2014.
It was also their second time in one week in which they lifted the triumph trophy, as they earlier defended their V.League 1 title on September 20.
And it was their third title of the year, as they won the National Super Cup at the beginning of the season.
Becamex Binh Duong's goals were by Abass Cheikh Dieng and Le Cong Vinh in the first half, and a double by Nguyen Trong Hoang in the second.
Ha Noi T&T scored twice, with goals by captain Gonzalo Damian Marronkle and Hoang Vu Samson.
It is the second win for Becamex Binh Duong over Ha Noi T&T in their last six meets.
"I believed in our victory, but did not think that it came to us easier than I expected. I though Ha Noi T&T would have been more challenging than that," said coach Mai Duc Chung of Becamex Binh Duong.
"I am now in the clouds, it is really difficult to express my feelings, I am so happy. It is also my first title double in career," Chung said.
Despite winning, Becamex Binh Duong suffered a loss as their striker, Abass, who had an opener was seriously injured.
The Senegal player suffered a broken leg at the 68th minute of the match, after a tackle by Duong Thanh Hao of Ha Noi T&T.
Hao received a red card, while Abass was sent to hospital for surgery and will then travel to Singapore for treatment.
"I did not see the situation with my eyes, but based on what my players said, I believe that Hao should receive two red cards," said Chung.
There is no information about when Abass could play again.
The V.League 1 has now ended and players will have the opportunity to rest for some five months. — VNS
