In 1989, he switched to business and became the first chairman of the Indian Business Chamber in Viet Nam (INCHAM).
With a good knowledge of Vietnamese, a love for local food and an understanding of Vietnamese history, he was mentioned in the 500 "best friends" of Viet Nam in a book titled Viet Nam and Friends' Hearts, published by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisation.
