HA NOI (VNS) — The English version of a memoir by noted former vice-president Nguyen Thi Binh has just been published by Tri Thuc Publishers and Phuong Nam Books Company.
The book titled Nguyen Thi Binh – Memoir- Family, Friends and Country translated by Lady Borton and edited by Nguyen Ngoc features important periods in the active life of the leader, who is a grand daughter of patriotic scholar Phan Chau Trinh (1872-1926).
Binh acted as the head of a delegation representing the National Front for the Liberation of South of Viet Nam at the Paris Peace Conference in 1973. Between 1976-87 she was Minister of Education, and in 1992-2002, she worked as Vice President of Viet Nam.
Borton, an American researcher and writer, worked actively for the normalisation of relationships between the United States and Viet Nam. Before this memoir, Borton had translated various books on noted Vietnamese figures like President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap.
The book will appear at the Frankfurt International Book Fair in October. — VNS
