Boonsawat claims stage win


Panwaraporn Boonsawat of Thailand came in first during the second stage, as teammate Supuksorn Nuntana continued to wear the yellow jersey of the International Women's Cycling Binh Duong Open yesterday.

BINH DUONG (VNS) — Panwaraporn Boonsawat of Thailand came in first during the second stage, as teammate Supuksorn Nuntana continued to wear the yellow jersey of the International Women's Cycling Binh Duong Open yesterday.

Boonsawat finished the 82km stage from Dinh Quan District (Dong Nai Province) to Bao Loc City (Lam Dong Province) with a time of 2hr 34.57min.

Saifutdinova Natalya of Kazakhstan and Cao Thi Cam Le of Binh Duong Environment and Water Supply and Drainage were second and third, respectively.

Nuntana remains the fastest rider after two stages, with 3:56.11. Boonsawat and Natalya are close behind.

Dong Thap tops the team ranking with 11:51.09. Thailand and Binh Duong are second and third.

Yesterday also saw one person involved in a fatal accident during the tour.

Motor driver Lin Ma Sang, driving as part of the motorcade, crashed into a local driver whose car was diverted across the road.

Sang, 53, was struck by the car. He was transported to a hospital for medical care, where he was later pronounced dead.

Another motor driver, Tran Ngoc Thach, reportedly suffered a broken leg.

Police arrested the unnamed driver for questioning.

The cycling event will continue today, with the 110km third stage from Bao Loc to Da Lat City. — VNS
