HA NOI (VNS)  — Tomorrow the romantic comedy crime drama The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover will be screened at Blossom Art House at 8pm.

A co-production by British and French filmmakers, the movie was written and directed by Peter Greenaway. It first shocked audiences at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival.

The story begins when churlish mobster Albert Spica (Michael Gambon) acquires an upscale French restaurant in London, effectively scaring off the clientele with his bad manners. His wife, Georgina (Helen Mirren), is especially disgusted by him, and soon begins an affair with another restaurant guest, Michael (Alan Howard). Despite their efforts to keep it a secret, however, Spica finds out about their trysts, and plans to exact his revenge.

The screening will take place at 94B Tran Hung Dao Street, Level 6.

On Sunday at 4pm, another British-French production, the animated film Paddington, will be presented at L'Espace, 24 Trang Tien Street.

Directed by Paul King, the 95-minute movie is full of tenderness and humour for all ages. It will be presented in French with Vietnamese subtitles.

Tickets cost VND50,000 and 40,000 for L'Espace members and students. — VNS
