BANGKOK (VNS) — Thailand's Buriram United won the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2015 after their 1-0 victory over Cambodia's Boeung Ket Angkor on their home turf in Bangkok.

Andres Tunes scored the only goal for the Thai Premier League champions in a penalty shootout in the 68th minute on December 20.

Buriram United pocketed US$75,000, while Boeung Ket Angkor took home $50,000.

The Cambodian side gave the greatest surprise of the football tournament by defeating former champions Becamex Binh Duong of Viet Nam 3-2 in the semi-final match earlier this month.

Their talented striker Chan Vathanaka was voted Most Valuable Player for his outstanding performance and five goals in the competition. He bagged $3,000. — VNS
