HA NOI (VNS) — Diva Thanh Lam and her younger brother, electronic musician Tri Minh, will jointly stage a music show in memory of their beloved father, composer Thuan Yen.
Entitled Ban Tinh Ca Cha Viet (The Song Composed by Father), the show is to dedicated to Yen who passed away in May at the age of 82 after fighting Alzheimer's disease for years.
According to Lam, whose career has been influenced strongly by her father, the show will offer the audience an overview of Yen's career as a composer.
Although Lam has initiated the show, she was confused when she had to select her father's songs that she will perform.
"It's not easy to select just 20 songs from my father's music legacy of more than 120 songs," said the diva, who became famous more than 20 years ago with the song Tinh Yeu Khong Loi (Speechless Love), composed by her father.
In the live show, Lam will perform other hit songs by Yen, including Chia Tay Hoang Hon (Goodbye Sunset), Khat Vong (The Desire) and Mau Hoa Do (Colour of the Red Flower).
The show will also feature performances by divo Tung Duong and singers Trong Tan and Anh Tho, who have performed compositions by Yen earlier.
The event will also include a special performance by Yen's widow, the 36-string zither artist Thanh Huong, and Tri Minh.
Minh, who has just returned to Ha Noi after his concert tour in the US with his Tri Minh Quartet, said the performance with his mother "may raise a little concern for some people".
"Some people asked me how I combine the traditional and modern [electro] music. However, the combination is a contemporary one. I'm pretty sure that our upcoming performance will represent both tradition and modernity, while showcasing the specific character of my father's music," added Minh.
The mother-and-son duo will perform the piece Tieng Dan Thap Luc (The Sound of the 36-String Zither), which Yen had composed specially for his beloved wife.
Thien Thanh, daughter of Lam and her ex-husband, composer Quoc Trung, will make her debut in the show with the song Con Gai Me Da La Chien Sy (Your Daughter Has Already Become a Soldier).
Tri Minh has also teamed up with Quoc Trung and leading composers Luu Ha An and Tran Manh Hung to compose the show's music.
The live Ban Tinh Ca Cha Viet show will take place at the Ha Noi Friendship Palace in Ha Noi at 8pm on November 8.
